atainf13. ATAINF Version 1.3 is a program designed to find the parameters and capabilities of ATA, ATAPI and SCSI drives. ATA drives are more commonly known as IDE or EIDE hard drives, and ATAPI are more commonly known as IDE versions of CD-ROM drives. There were only a couple of programs out there that would dump some of the parameters of IDE hard drives, but they had no support for CD-ROM and most of the time they did not follow the ATA specs. ATAINF now supports SCSI drives through the ASPI drivers, ATAPI drives through the ASPI drivers in Windows 95, ATAPI drivers through the ATASPI drivers, and most other drives through the native ATA/ATAPI interface. You can use this program to see if your CD ROM drive supports digital audio extraction.
cdcopy. CD Copy V3.803. This module allows you to write audio-tracks from CD to disk. Registered users are able to write these files to a CD-Writer. Running under Windows-95 the program only works with SCSI or ATAPI-CDROM/CD-R, which support this special mode. Using WINDOWS-NT it is possible to use the generic WIN32 interface to read the CDDA-tracks. By default, the module starts detecting an ASPI-interface. If it is not available the generic interface is used. The following hardware was tested: Adaptec 2940, Plextor CD-ROM 8XCS, RICOH 1420C, TOSHIBA 3401, PIONEER DR-U24X (Reads CDDA 3X!!!), UltraPlex (Reads CDDA 25X!!). It's fully functional under Windows-95 and Windows-NT 3.51/4.x.
cdw9521z. CD Worx Version 2.21.0046 for Windows 95. This is a multithreaded Windows 95 application which can read CD digital audio tracks and save them as wave file without any quality loss (digital copy). It works on every CD-ROM drive if this drive and its device driver support MSCDEX raw reading. A built-in jitter correction (synchronization) can be used to eliminate intermittent ticks (pops and breaks) in the resulting sound file and thus always get an absolutely accurate reproduction of the CD. CD Worx allows you to view any sector(s) of any CD (audio or CD-ROM) in a hex-editor-like view window. If has a great number of other useful features and a comprehensive technical documentation on the CD-ROM programming interface in the on-line help file.
Dido4. Digital In Digital Out. Dido allows you to copy audio data from an audio CD directly to a .WAV file. In doing so, you will not suffer degraded audio quality due to D/A and A/D conversions, simply because these are not needed to capture the audio. This procedure allows you to take samples from CDs, and upload them without quality loss digitally to a sampler or any wavetable synthesis card you have. When the sounds reside in the memory of the sampler, they can be used to sound notes driven by the MIDI stream you feed it.
readcda2. READCDA v2.0 enables you to use your CD-ROM drive to read Digital Audio Data from a Compact Disc. It reads the data digitally, so there is no loss in quality. Unfortunately not all CD-ROM drives support the drive call that enables READCDA to read the data. The program was written to work on a Panasonic double speed drive (CR-562B, Creative Labs 2x drive). It also works on various Sony and Teac drives. It does NOT work on Mitsumi drives - the company thinks the copyright issues could cause them problems.
wdac133. Digital Audio Copy for Win32 V1.33. This allows you to copy Audio Tracks from CD to a Hard Disk, Convert them to 11, 22 or 44kHz Stereo/Mono (Mix/Left/Right). It Supports ATAPI and SCSI CD-ROM drives.
Composition (COMPOSIT)
alcomp11: Aleatoric Composer. This package attempts to create music using random and conditional probabilities according to parameters you set. It is a shareware product, but is fully functional (not cripple-ware). The program itself is sequencer style, that is, you have many tracks you can add, edit, and delete, each of which can have its own Time Signature, Tempo, Sound Patch, and MIDI Channel. Plus, the program generates MIDI files which you can import into your favourite sequencer (such as Cakewalk for Windows) or even a score notation program to print out your favourite generated riffs! The program plays songs you create, so you don't need any external sequencer software besides the one you installed with Windows (whether you know it or not). It'll work with anything from a 2nd hand Adlib card to a Synclavier.
anyspd: Any Speed version 1.1 for Windows 95, Windows NT 4.0. This helps you to define the data transfer speed in a network. With this program you can measure the real transfer speed between Internet provider and your computer and define the time when Internet speed is highest. Also Any Speed can measure speed of a local network or a CD ROM driver, and shows the results in a graphical kind. Any Speed puts the results in the trend file and can build the trend chart of any day. Any Speed allows you to connect to a Dial-Up Network with much greater ease. It will automatically press connect for you on the Connect To dialog box. With AnySpeed you can run a programs when network speed has some value. Fmus10. Fractal Music, a composition generation program for windows which generates music based on fractals. It includes a wide range of adjustable parameters giving the user a lot of control over the settings and the output. It also products Cellular Automata drawings which can be saved.
frctmus2. FractMus 2.0 is a Win32 application that creates Fractal/Algorithmic music using mathematical algorithms from chaotic dynamics, fractals, and number-theory. Its features include: full MIDI file support, sixteen independent voices, complete control of MIDI parameters (instrumentation, voice dynamics, channels, etc), 8 note-generating algorithms, 14 predefined musical scales (with the possibility of creating user-defined ones), 11 predefined note durations (plus user-defined ones), melody manipulation support (inversion, etc), full on-line-documentation/help and many more.
impvz130. Improvise 1.3 is a program that composes algorithmic MIDI music in real time, on up to sixteen channels at once. You can control parameters governing pitch, rhythm, tempo, texture, etc. as the music plays, immediately hearing the effect of all changes -- or simply let the program produce endlessly new music, without requiring any real time interaction on your part. You can save groups of settings and parameters, optionally including a map of MIDI programs and/or a 'mix' of MIDI volume information, allowing you to preserve your algorithmic compositions either for later reproduction, or as the basis for future musical explorations. You can also save MIDI program maps and 'mixes' independently of settings and parameters. Algorithmic MIDI output can also be saved directly to a Standard MIDI file, permitting later playback and editing of live real-time algorithmic performances. katorzer. KaTorZer v1.41 uses mathematical functions to generate music which is output via MIDI. The patterns are played in loops which can be placed along a time line to play together.
mandel. A collection of MIDI files composed with the aid of fractals.
master.exe. MAS - Music Analysis System. An academic program designed to show the relationships which exist between notes and chords. It runs in Windows or DOS. It does set theoretical analyses of two types: 1) Unordered, or non-linear sets (US), and 2) Ordered, or linear, sets (OS). Those unfamiliar with, yet curious about, set analysis are referred to Allen Forte's The Structure of Atonal Music (Yale, 1973), and to Larry Solomon's "The List of Chords, Their Properties and Use in Analysis," in Interface, Journal of New Music Research, 1982, v11/2.
melody. Melody Assistant is software for computer-assisted tune writing and composition. A powerful editor allows you to place and move the notes easily on the staves. A complete digital instrument database is integrated into Melody offering hi-quality music. You can record your own sounds from a CD or a microphone (or load a sound file like .AIFF or .WAV), and use them as instruments in your tunes. You can import and export music in MIDI 0 or 1 or CMF formats and the program can read Band In A Box style files and MOD files. Exporting the whole tune in AIFF or WAV format allows your music to be integrated in multimedia projects, or to be written later on an audio CD. Exports are reserved to registered copies. It also includes tablature and chord diagrams. Melody calculates tablature and displays the chord diagrams. You can even define your own stringed instrument and calculate tablatures for it. Printing is widely user-definable and you can define the printing format.
midftz21. MidiFitz 2.1. It is a realtime MIDI accompaniment program for musical keyboard players who have a Windows 95 PC with MIDI IN/OUT capabilities and an electronic MIDI keyboard with MIDI OUT. It reads the chords you play and matches them to the style you selected to produce a real-time drums and bass rhythm section through the PC's MIDI system.
motone.exe. Mostly Tonal is a music generation program. You tell it to compose a melody, harmony, drum section or variation and then decide if you want to keep it or if you want another one. You can apply several variation processes to a melody including double note, inverse, retrograde and arpeggiation. You can enter notes from MIDI keyboard, there's a mixer to mix the parts and you can use different instrument and drum maps to suit your equipment.
Musiclab. MusicLab I v3 was specifically developed to help you explore music composition using chaotic (strange) function attractors by letting you explore alternative mathematically-based musical structures. It provides two different types of mathematic functions for generating chaos: 1) Quadratic Maps and 2) Iterated Function Systems. In addition, to make it easier to find unique and original chaotic function attractors, an automatic, random means of finding function parameters producing chaos has been added; using this feature it is highly unlikely that two composers will obtain exactly the same chaotic attractors for their compositions. The program composes from 1 to 12 tracks of melody or user-definable chords. A powerful new feature is the addition of compositional control scripts. Using these scripts individual tracks can be automatically modified during the composition process - instrument preset changes, instruments turned on/off, etc., to achieve a wide variety of effects including varying musical textures and simulation of chord progressions. musinum2b5. MusiNum 2.0 beta 5 generates music from numbers. Using numeric progressions and scales (which can be user-defined) the program generates a range of melodies which can be quite harmonic or rather more dissonant, depending on the number sequence used.
prime. Aesthetics of the Prime Numbers Sequence by Nada Brahma. The translation of prime numbers into music. A .htm document explaining the methods used by the composer plus two MIDI files of the music.
wtf30. The Well-Tempered Fractal v3.0 is a Composer's Tool for the Derivation of Musical Motifs, Phrases and Rhythms From The Beauty and Symmetry of Fractals, Chaotic Attractors and Other Mathematical Functions. It composes musical melodies by mapping fractal images to musical scales. Ten different fractal types may be mapped to twenty-one different musical scales. Twenty symmetry operators may be applied to the image as it is plotted. The output may be heard on an ordinary PC speaker or written to a MIDI event file which can be converted to a standard MIDI file for use with MIDI instruments or sound cards. The aim of the program is to produce fractally generated melodies to be used by composers as the starting point for entire musical compositions.
Digital Audio (DIGAUDIO)
3daud11: 3D-Audio. Creates high quality 3D spatial audio. You can setup a virtual scene and animate the listener and the unlimited number of sound sources to get a 3D spatial audio impression. You can use the program to produce special sound effects or mix a complete sound set together. Very impressive results can be achieved by setting up a virtual band e.g. a quartet with all instruments recorded separately. With the program you can mix the instruments together with 3D spatial information for an unknown sound experience.
Acmao11: Audio Compression Manager Add-On 1.1. This piece of software should help you, to convert your audio data to other audio formats than PCM (pulse code modulation). Depending on the audio codecs installed on your system, its possible to compress speech without significant quality loss (e.g. using the TrueSpeech codec shipped with Win95/WinNT) or to compress music using the MPEG layer 3 codec delivered with Microsoft NetShow 2.0.
audiv3e: Quartz Audio PRO is the first digital audio studio for the PC/Windows_ environment which permits - in a simple manner - the production of all your sound mixes:- messages, "clips", "jingles", songs, sound tracks for multimedia presentations, audio accompaniment, films, slide presentations, etc. The Mixing Grid includes 128 virtual tracks and mixes complexity is only function of the power of the machine on which they are processed. awave44: Awave for Windows 95 or 98 or Windows NT 3.51, 4.0 or 5.0 or Windows 3.1 with Win32s 1.3. Awave reads a veritable host of audio carrying file formats from different platforms, synthesisers and trackers. It can be used in a variety of ways: as an audio file format converter, an audio editor, an audio player, and, last but not least, as a wavetable synthesiser instrument format converter and editor. Data is internally represented in a superset of the format defined by the DownLoadable Sounds architecture level 1 standard. It can be viewed as a graphical tree with the 'collection' as the stem, instruments, layers, and regions as branches, and finally, waveforms as leaves. Saving to any of the supported export formats is just a button away! Sending and receiving MIDI SDS dumps are also supported for transferring waveforms to professional synthesisers. There are visual editors for all parameters like waveform loop points and layer keymaps. Basic audio processing and editing functions are also provided. The 'AudioPlayer' feature is a nice audio playback control, sporting both real-time oscilloscope and frequency analyzer graphs. It is available from inside Awave as well as integrated into the Windows95 shell in order to easily let you play the sounds of any of the supported file formats! Thus it is also and ideal 'helper app' for your WWW-browser! If you are into any form of sampled audio on the Windows platform, you'll most likely find this program useful!
cylxv104. The Cylonix Vocoder v1.04. This implements a filter bank channel vocoder with 18 channels. The program was designed for use with a full duplex Creative Labs SoundBlaster card (e.g. the SB32 or SB64) and a Pentium computer running Windows95. The program should function, however, with any sound card that can operate in full duplex mode and has a Windows multimedia driver. The program runs fine on a 120MHz Pentium but may produce choppy sound with slower computers.
dithdemo. Dither demo. A collection of files which illustrate the effects of dithering in digital audio processing. Each of the .WAV files is of a sinewave decaying into noise. The frequency of the sinusoid is 500Hz, and it decays from +20dB to -20dB over 20 seconds, at -2dB per second, therefore. The reference 0dB is the power of the quatisation noise floor without dither. The power of the sinusoid and the quantisation noise floor are therefore equal half-way through the sample (ie after 10 seconds).

emastr100. EffectsMaster V1.0 is an audio utility program written for the Windows 95 operating system. It adds effects like graphic equalizer, dynamic compression, non-linear distortion, filter modulation, envelope filter, chorus, reverb, delay to an audio signal sampled from an input device, and then writes it back to the output device in real-time (with a delay >=50 ms). ntrack20. N-Track v2.0 will turn your computer in to a powerful multitrack recorder. All you need is a full duplex soundcard, Windows 95, a microphone and some free space on your hard drive. The program has no theoretical limitations on the number of tracks. With a Pentium 100, 32 megabytes of RAM and a quite slow hard drive, it's easy to work with 6 tracks. The most powerful feature is that the tracks (wave files) aren't mixed together in a single wave file and then played. The mixing process is done "on the fly": in this way you can alter the volume and pan settings while listening to your song or even while recording. Wave files and MIDI tracks are treated in the same fashion - all mixer controls will act in similar way on a MIDI track or a Wave track.

perfmchk. Steinberg's Cubasis Audio Performance Checker. Using this program you will obtain fairly accurate information as to how many audio Tracks your PC setup can handle simultaneously. The disk drive to be tested must have at least 20 Mb of free disk space and at least one sound card capable of recording/playing back audio should be installed in your computer.
SAW32Demo_23.exe. SAW32 Demo v2.3. SAW is an acronym for Software Audio Workshop. SAW32 and SAWPlus32 represent the third generation of digital hard disk editing software from Innovative Quality Software. SAW32/SAWPlus32 is written in native NT/95 32 bit code. This demo version consists of an advanced wave-file-player and a set of Plug-ins, which can be chained to suit the individual need of the material to be processed. In addition to Sound Laundry this version accepts MPEG layer3 files as input and will automatically start playback if a file is dropped on the desktop icon of AlgoPlug 2.1. The demo provides almost full functionality except the Plug-in usage is limited to 1 minute, Generation of wave-files is disabled (no off-line processing), and Live in to out through the effect chain is disabled.
spikey. Spikey.zip contains a very simple 8 bit WAV file which can be loaded into any sound sample editor to reveal something about the editor's accuracy (or lack thereof). It contains three pairs of positive/negative spikes amidst a sea of silence. If an editor uses a true peak detecting polarity sensitive drawing algorithm it will always show you spikes and other transients no matter what your zoom level is. You'll always be sure that both the polarity and size of the drawing are accurate. Unfortunately, many editors skip over sample data in order to make their drawing speed a
little faster or smoother. Depending on your zoom level, peaks and transients may not be shown accurately, and in some cases, may not be shown at all.
ssdem-e. Samplitude Studio v4.0 demo, a comprehensive digital multi-track recorder with many features. Written in Native 32 bit code for use under Windows 95 and Windows NT, it supports ARC44 4 channel IO cards, multiple standard Windows sound cards for playback and recording (unlimited device number), device selection in the track info dialog, switching between single and multi-card mode in the project properties menu and Multiple Input Record function without the need of the record dialog. Functions include auto crossfades, On screen mixer with volume, panorama, 3 band full parametric EQ, dynamics compressor/distortion, echo/delay on each channel All effects are calculated in realtime! Synctest. Sync test Program for Cubasis. Due to the way digital audio is handled on a PC computer, some care needs to be taken to make sure that audio and MIDI playback stay in sync at all times. For background information about this, see the printed Cubasis Audio manual. One factor in this is the "DMA Blocksize" that the sound card and its software driver uses. The "DMA Blocksize" is the size of the "chunks of audio data" that the computer sends to the audio card. For proper synchronization between digital audio playback and MIDI, Cubasis Audio needs to know the "DMA blocksize" that your specific system uses. The purpose of the Sync Tester is to extract this information from the sound card and its driver and write it into the CUBASIS.INI file.
wavesurg. WaveSurgeon v2.0 is a tool designed to automate the process of editing samples. It automatically finds individual segments and loop points within a sample which makes it particularly suitable for drum samples, but it may be used to break apart anything (including vocals). WaveSurgeon can save each segment to a separate wave file; save a MIDI timing template based upon the sample to a standard MIDI file; save all segments into a SoundFont 2.0 file for AWE soundcards; and it can transfer samples to and from SDS compliant samplers. In conduction with a sequencer, can be used to slow down and speed up a loop, without changing its pitch. In conduction with a sequencer, it can transpose / pitch bend a loop, without changing the speed. It will automatically pick out drum samples (segments) from loops; it can replace single drum sounds with others; and MIDI timing templates can be used to replace the original sounds with others. WaveSurgeon's editing tools allow precise editing of loops, I allows filtering with the AWE's on-board filter, and it can effects (reverb, etc.) in real time.
waveton. Wave To Note version 1.1. This can be used to determine the pitch of a given WAV-file. First you get some information about the sample data. Then you can input a time which the Fourier Transformation vector will start at. The analysis covers a 3/4 second of the recording. The rest of the data is ignored.
wavmaker16 and wavmaker32. 16-bit and 32-bit versions of WavMaker v3.2 for Windows. G a Standard MIDI file, it can create a CD quality song of virtually unlimited complexity and polyphony, in standard WAV format. You can control all patch parameters and instrument assignments, add your own samples or create a wholly new instrument library. You can take a sound - any sound; your voice, a window breaking, a jet plane roaring by - modify it beyond recognition, add it to your sound library, and use it in your song. You can take a MIDI file, render tracks and channels separately, apply different effects to them, and mix them back down together. You can take a recorded vocal part, edit it, and add it to your song, resampling it if needed. Digital Signal Processing functions include mix, maximise, fade, gate, compress, enhance, low/high/band/notch filter, ring modulation, vocoder, reverse, echo, reverb, flange, chorus, extend, cut, gated cut) and MIDI analysis/manipulation.
wavsng24. WaveSong v2.4 is a nature-sound generator program for Windows 95 or NT4.0, using the digital sound output capabilities of your sound card. Sounds produced include: thunder, crickets, waves, rain, and wind. Listening parameters are easily changed to fit your special mood. Now with built-in timer, tray icon and screen saver hooks.
Editors-Librarians (EDITORS)
01wse32. 01/W SoundEditor 32. Highly graphic editor which features Programs, Combi, Drum kits, Global and MIDI Setup options.
AN1xEdit.exe. Definitive editor for Yamaha's AN1x synthesiser. Very graphic, comprehensive - essential for every AN1x owner.
cm. CanvasMan is the Windows editor/librarian for Roland's Sound Canvas line of GS synthesisers (SC-55, SC-55mkII, SCC-1, SC-155, JV-30 and many others (see the help file's READ ME FIRST! section for a complete list)). CanvasMan provides true MIDI multitasking - you can run it by itself, while you sequence with Cakewalk, or while you jam with Band-In-A-Box. CanvasMan can play your MIDI files as you edit-you'll hear your changes instantly in the context of your own musical projects! It saves its data in standard sysex format (also called "MIDIEX" format) so you can store edits within your sequences or as stand-alone banks. You can even create your own single- and multi-Part sounds for easy future recall. Finally, CanvasMan gives you mastery over all Global, Part, and Drum parameters. No other editor gives you such complete control over the Sound Canvas!
dw8000. This is a Windows-based editor/librarian for the Korg DW-8000 synthesiser. It should also work with the rack-mount EX-8000.
epsln20b.exe. Epsilon is a remote wavesample editor for the Ensoniq EPS 16+ Digital Sampling Workstation, but it also works with the Ensoniq ASR-10. It offers you a graphical view of your wavesamples and allows you to send editing-commands to your EPS. Epsilon does all this through a MIDI connection, but still it works fast. This is because the program uses the build in wavesample-overview functionality of the EPS. Wavesample-overview makes it possible to get a graphical view of a wavesample without transferring the whole wavesample. On large samples a complete wavesample transfer through MIDI takes a long while, getting a wavesample-overview only takes a few seconds or less. When you want to see more detail, just zoom into that area and get a new wavesample-overview.
esq1_syx. A collection of patches for the EQS1.
frl_100. FreeLoader 1.0 is a shareware utility used to play sysex files, MIDIX files, and standard MIDI files into MIDI devices. You can use Freeloader to load sysex banks such as those found in the Preset Program Section. It also features a sysex recorder.
glib4. The Glib v4 archive includes a pre-compiled executable with support for the TX81Z, DW8000, and Microwave. To use, just unzip the glib4.zip file, and execute glib.exe. This executable runs under Windows 95. You might have to recompile it to run under Windows 3.1. The software is, in this day and age, an embarrassing hodge podge. It may be useful if you are looking for example code that does MIDI stuff or which manipulates the patches for a particular synthesiser. The undocumented 'm' command is the hidden jewel here - it 'mixes' up the right bank of patches. In other words, press 'm' and the patches will be randomly 'mixed' up. Generates great stuff on the TX81Z, and possible on other synths as well.
gr30e100. The GR-30 Editor. Roland's GR-30 guitar synthesiser has an interesting and useful "Arpeggiator" function but to make good arpeggio patterns, it need some practice. The original GR-30 software was essentially an Arpeggio Editor to make the arpeggio patterns more easy. Later, it was expanded to include the edit functions for all patch parameters.
gsp110. GS-Panel is an easy-to-use control panel for Roland GS compatible devices. It also supports the Roland GM devices RAP-10, SCDB-10 and SCB-7. The main purpose of GS-Panel is to let you easily change the reverb macro, level and time and the master volume and pan. GS-Panel is designed for Windows 95.
JunoEdit. Juno Editor For Windows 95/NT v 2.01. This program should be very easy to use for any Juno owner. The sliders are grouped in a quick-to-find way. The 'waveforms' and 'Envelope & LFO' windows have a simple graphical representation. In this program a 'patch' means one sound (preset or memory), a bank is a bank of eight sounds just like on the Juno, and memory stands for all banks in the memory section.
ks32edit. KS editor 0.1a is a sysex-utility for the KS32 which uses the multimedia-extensions of Windows. A simple editor for editing banks and sounds is included. The program should work with all MIDI-equipment that has a Windows-driver. The Program should also work with the SQ1 or SQ2 as they are compatible. The program can read files (sequences, banks and sounds) and send them to your KS. It can receive sequences, sounds and banks from your KS and save them to disk. Receiving is done by request, so you don't have to press any button on your KS. In the program you can edit a standard sound. Drum sound editing is not implemented yet. You should be able though, to edit the effect included with the drumsound.
m3r211fu. M3RLibEd is a full and comprehensive application that allows you to archive programs and combinations of your Korg M3R and edit the global and combination parameters of the synth.
mc303. The MC-303 Controller for Windows controls a Roland MC-303 Groove Box through MIDI. The MC-303 has 2 modes of operation - MC-303 Groove box (real-time control, sequencer) and MC-303 Sound Module (control through MIDI). Unfortunately, whenever the MC-303 is in Sound Module mode, the real-time controls are inhibited. The MC-303 Controller for Windows allows to control the MC-303 through MIDI in real-time ! Furthermore, you can send MIDI controllers to a MIDI sequencer to record the MIDI data stream so you don't have to re-enter the data manually (works only in combination with MIDI Yoke). User drum sets can be programmed and saved, and the parameters of the effects module in the MC-303 can be altered and saved in a sysex file.
midiedit. MIDI EDITOR v1.2 - The Universal MIDI Device Manager - for Windows 3.x and Windows 95. This is an open system with several great functions, some of them you can't find in any other software. The Librarian can handle banks from any kind of MIDI device (synthesiser, expander, multi-effect, rhythm box, MIDI vacuum-cleaner, MIDI toothbrush, etc.) (or so we believe), and of any kind of data within the MIDI device. Some MIDI devices are already parametered in it, but new devices can be added without having to pay anything else or wait for months for a new release to come along.. The Editor allows you to manipulate the parameters of your sounds and to create new ones easily. You create your own edit windows The MIDI Receiver enables you to receive MIDI messages from your MIDI device. It can either send a Request Message (if your device supports it), or simply wait for data to come through the MIDI In cable. The MIDI Transmitter can transmit any kind of MIDI Message (System Exclusive) to your MIDI device. The Import Function lets you import MIDI FILES, SysEx Files, and allows you to create your own import formats for importing those weird files of yours no other software could read The Export Function lets create MIDI FILES and SysEx Files for use with other software.
midlib02. Midi Sysex Librarian v0.1 beta. This is designed to read sound patches from various synthesisers and save them to disk. It will allow you to open a patch file on disk and send it to your synth. It will also allow you to create empty patch banks so you can drag and drop sounds from other patch banks to create new ones. It currently supports the Yamaha DX7, Kawai K1, Roland D110 and Ensoniq Mirage.
mxed1_03 The MatrixEd patch editor for the Oberheim Matrix 1000 sound module permits real-time editing of all the parameters which define the Matrix-1000 sound module patches. An intuitive graphical user interface is used, involving sliders and buttons to adjust the parameter values. A "patch-bay" graphical interface is used to program the Matrix modulation routings, allowing easy visualisation and control of this critical and confusing aspect of the Matrix-1000. A full-featured patch and patch-bank editor is provided, which allows patch banks to be easily constructed and saved/loaded from disk or from the Matrix-1000. Patches are stored on disk in sysex format, permitting transfer of patches between disk and sound module via 3rd party sysex software (such as Cakewalk, for example). Patches can be auditioned during programming with mouse button presses, easing programming without a MIDI controller. MatrixEd runs under Window 3.1, and should run under Windows 95, although this has not been tested.
noizedmo. NoiZe for Windows Demo Version D2.0. This demo is a fully functional release version of NoiZe, with the exception that all MIDI communication has been disabled. It can, therefore, be run on a system without any MIDI drivers. The demo comes with Editor Modules for a few instruments to let you see how NoiZe editors look and feel. The Editor Module for your instrument may or may not be included. NoiZe Editor Modules are custom designed for each instrument, but the basic philosophy is the same for all of them. We try to show you the entire patch on screen at once, and we group logically related parameters together on panes that you can move, zoom, or hide to let you rearrange the display to make the most sense to you. You can save these custom layouts to use anytime you are editing each patch.
P1_gmidi.mid. The Ultimate Proteus General Midi Bank. These sounds were designed for a Proteus /1XR with the Invision Upgrade installed. 255 sounds. The 1st 127 are GM sounds (snooz!) and the 2nd 127 are really cool big and bold sounds. You need a Proteus XR to get to the sounds 0-63 and 128-255. If you don't have the Invision upgrade board (which adds another 4 megs of samples) installed all the sounds will not work--but many will.
Polyphon. Polyphony v1.0 is a configuration manager for the Proteus class products. It is designed to create and edit system exclusive data blocks. It does not perform standard sequencer functions such as preset, volume, and pan assign for each channel. The system exclusive data blocks are divided into five categories by Polyphony: Global data, Channel specific data, Presets, Digital Effects, and the Program Map.
QSedit32. QS SoundEditor 32 for Alesis QS instruments.
Quad121. Quadraverb Patcher Version 1.21. This program is designed to control the Alesis Quadraverb series of digital effects processors and give easy access to the Quadraverb's features. It will allow settings to be modified in real time and allow current settings to be stored for later retrieval. It is a SHAREWARE program designed to store and edit patches for the Alesis Quadraverb/Quadraverb Plus/Quadraverb GT effects processors. It runs under Microsoft Windows 3.1 or Microsoft Window 95.
Rich_p3.mid. Rich's Eclectic Collection--64 for the Proteus/3. Worldish-sounding presets. Lots of deep layers, sound fx, environmental stuff, and, you might not have known this but the p/3 does excellent electric guitars--check out Fender Mustang and Gibson ES 335.
Rich_vfx. A bank of sounds for the Ensoniq VFX. Always be careful with the VFX. Back everything up. XoR's VFX profile and the VFX OS may cause strange results sometimes.
richs_ws. An XoR Unisyn Bank for the Wavestation SR. It contains 50 performances, 34 patches and 32 Wave Sequences. Do back up your data before you load this bank as XoR Unisyn banks for the SR will replace all your SR's RAM.
sbr_120. Alesis Sound Bridge v1.2 is a Windows utility that compiles custom samples, program banks and sequences from a variety of sources into the QuadraSynth Voice format, and then downloads those Voices to an Alesis - compatible PCMCIA Sound Card via MIDI SysEx to QuadraSynth and QS synthesisers. Originally developed for in-house use only, Alesis soon realised the need for end users to be able to burn their own Sound Cards using whatever samples they had at their disposal. Sound Bridge makes this possible without a dedicated PCMCIA card burner. All you need is a QuadraSynth or QS synthesiser along with a standard MIDI interface. If your synthesiser has the onboard serial interface, just connect a serial cable from your synthesiser to an available serial port on your PC (make sure you have the Alesis Serial Port Windows MIDI Driver installed). Sound Bridge does NOT require additional hardware. The files are loaded directly into Sound Bridge from any disk (CD-ROM, floppy disk, hard disk, etc.). Sound Bridge will, however, allow the user to audition samples from the disk through most PC Sound Cards. NOTE: not every Alesis synthesiser will recognise all of the different types of data on a Card. For example, an original Quadrasynth WILL read sample and program data from a compiled Sound Card, but it will NOT compile a card via MIDI nor will it recognise sequence data on a card.
sdlib102. SoundLib v1.01 is a synthesiser librarian for Windows with support for more than 17 synths. These include Casio CZ101, CZ1000; Ensoniq ESQ-1, ESQ-M, SQ-80, VFX, VFX-SD, VFX-SD II, SD1, TS10, TS12; Kawai K1, K1m, K1r, K1 II, K3, K4; Korg M1, M3R, T1, T2, T3, Wavestation (SR, A/D...), 0 series (01W, 02W, 03W...), X series (X2, X3, X5...); Waldorf Microwave; and Yamaha DX7, DX7 II.
SEInstall21f.exe. Sounds Exclusive v2.1 was designed and developed by a musician/engineer who got frustrated with plain old General MIDI. It allows your computer to generate and manage messages that control the special features of your MIDI-compatible equipment. These special messages are different for each kind of device and not a part of the General MIDI specification. They are exclusive to that product. For instance, you would send a Rotate Laser 90 Degrees command to a MIDI-compliant lighting system but not to your synthesiser because it wouldn't know what to do with it. In order to know what these messages are, you must refer to the technical specification that came with your device. For most MIDI devices, it describes the MIDI implementation somewhat cryptically, with lots of numbers, flow diagrams, and tables. This is scary to those who haven't seen them before. Therefore, this program is really only useful to those of you that are willing to brave the 'grey zone' of MIDI and reach the full capabilities of your computer-based sequencers. In the long run, you'll save yourself a lot of time. Sounds Exclusive takes care of some of the more painstaking tasks of building a system exclusive message such as check summing and computing hex values from decimal, and it allows you to test your messages as you write them.
Sprc. The SP Remote Control is a fully functional "virtual control panel" for the Peavey DPM-SP range of Sample Playback Synthesisers. All parameters and controls that are available externally via MIDI are presented in a simple graphical interface using faders, buttons, scroll bars and direct keyboard entry fields. All controls are presented in one window using a "tab" metaphor design so the parameter you wish to edit or query is only ever one mouse click away. The SP Remote Control will not add any additional functionality to the SP, nor will it let you access any "hidden" parameters lurking deep within the Operating System, but it will allow greater flexibility and ease of editing and hopefully demonstrate how the SP can be used as a complex waveform based synthesis system. Compared to many of today's ROM waveform based keyboards and modules.
studio_drivers. Almost 240 Cubase Studio Module drivers for instruments from over 30 companies. The archive also includes a couple of utilities.
sysex95. SysEx Manager 95 receives, saves, and sends out general System Exclusive messages and data. It works with all types of MIDI instrument. Program Librarian saves individual programs from your instrument and allows you to rearrange them. It works with a few types of MIDI instrument, but can be made to work with many more. Program Editor allows you to edit the sounds on your Korg M1 using drag-and-drop on a graph, along with entering settings in the normal manner. It works only with a Korg M1 or M1R. Instrument definitions for the Roland D110, Emu Vintage Keys and Yamaha MU modules also included.
trinitypcg11win95. Trinity PCG 1.1 is a Windows 95 compatible librarian for the Korg Trinity brand of professional music synthesiser. It allows you to easily manipulate the contents of .PCG files as stored by the Trinity synthesiser.
vbsyx24f. VBSYX v2.4 is a SYSEX Decoder for Roland/Yamaha instruments. It supports all Roland/Yamaha GS/XG modules and automatically converts GS SYSEX to XG. VBSYX will read MID, WRK, SEQ and SYX files. Encoding as well as decoding is supported. It plays MID files and sends SYSEX messages. GS and XG Bulk Dumps are supported too. Sample SYSEX messages are included. Currently, the program specifically supports SYSEX messages for the SC-55, SC-155, SCC1, SC-88, M-GS64 and RAP-10. Other compatible modules/cards will probably work with this program: however, they are not specifically supported. All Yamaha XG Sound Modules and Cards are supported. The archive also includes XG/GS MIDI Jukebox.
vectorp2. The Vector Plus Orchestral Bank for the Proteus 2. This bank contains 64 fat orchestral textures. They have been road tested for several years in Rich's studio. Make sure you play the controllers on these sounds as the wheels are programmed to dynamically "morph" the timbres in real time. Check out Chgo, Symph, Big Timpani, Soft Orch.
WaveSt32.. WaveStation SoundEditor 32 for the Korg WaveStation.
winsds. WinSDS is a MIDI sample-dump transfer program that runs under Windows.
winsysex. WinSysEx v2.0 is a Shareware program that lets you create dialog boxes that send system exclusive messages from your computer to a MIDI device or Window's clipboard. You enter groups of system exclusive messages into WinSysEx's editor, giving each group a descriptive name. WinSysEx creates a SysEx Dialog. The SysEx Dialogs listbox, located in WinSysEx's main window, lists your dialogs and allows you to pick one to run or edit. Double-click on a name in the list to run the SysEx dialog. When you click the SysEx dialog's Send menu item, WinSysEx sends the group of system exclusive messages out the MIDI port.
WSEdit1c.exe. WSEdit v 1.c is a graphical editor for the Korg Wavestation family of synthesisers. It runs under Window 3.X and Windows 95, and it is packed with useful features: sounds and effects editing, wavesequences editing, among others. WSEdit supports all Wavestation models (base, EX, A/D and SR). It needs to be connected to a Wavestation via a MIDI interface installed on your computer. However, a sample WSEdit data file is included in the package to
let you run WSEdit in off-line mode and see how it works. It has the same hierarchical organisation you find in the Wavestation user interface, but it makes it easier to access related parameters originally spread on different screens. You can now pop up the LFO dialog box while setting the modulation amount for the wavesequence, or show which performances currently use the patch you are editing. You can cut and paste data from one setup to another with a minimum effort. WSEdit supports real time parameters editing, as well as differed editing. That means you can modify your sounds inside WSEdit and listen immediately to the result, or start an editing session with no MIDI at all and transfer the data to the Wavestation when you think it's okay. Using real time editing, when you move a slider or rotate a knob or change a wave, the new value is immediately sent to the Wavestation so you can listen to the new sound. Using differed editing you can create sounds even without a Wavestation (i.e. if you travel with your trusty notebook...) and load sound information in the Wavestation when you're back home.
Education (EDUCATE)
kn32v152. KeNote Music Drills for Windows 95 or Windows NT 3.51 offer musical drills for Clef Notes, Keyboard, and Guitar. This program was written to allow the beginning music student to drill note identification on the basic music clefs including treble clef, bass clef, and the grand staff. There are additional drills for the alto and tenor clefs. Also, practice key identification and note location on the keyboard, and fret identification and note location on the guitar fingerboard.
musbox01. The Music Box Demo Version 1.0, a Personal Ear for Windows. Using The Music Box, music teachers and students can improve their ability to identify intervals and triads, take melodic dictation and even sight sing. It's easy to use and you can adjust the difficulty level.
mwdemo.exe. Musicware Piano software is the first comprehensive, interactive piano-instruction system for use with personal computers. For ages seven through adult, Musicware Piano is available in four courses covering the first three-and-one-half years of piano lessons. This self-running demo requires a 386/486/Pentium PC running Windows 3.1 or higher equipped with a soundcard with the soundcard's Windows MIDI and Synth drivers installed. MIDI keyboard optional but recommended for the DEMO.
wsmusdm.exe. Super Musicus v1.9 is a game designed to help students gain a better perspective of the relative length of notes (whole, half, quarter, eighth, sixteenth, and triplets), combinations of tied notes of equal value (e.g. two tied quarters, etc.), and tied notes of unequal value or dotted notes, as well as how these note values relate to musical meter. The student must manoeuvre the falling note blocks into position in measures of specific meters. Blocks are manoeuvred using the left and right arrows on the keyboard or moving the mouse to the left and right.
Guitar (GUITAR)
ds32ch21. With the dsChordFinder program you can analyse windows samples (.wav files) and find out which guitar chords are played in it. This can be done fully automatically, in which case you can only find major and minor chords, or manually, in order to find other chords.
ds32tu22. dsTune is a program, designed to assist in tuning a guitar. Through a microphone, or directly with an electrical guitar, and a soundcard the sound is led into the computer, where dsTune analyses it and calculates the main frequency. This frequency is shown by a pointer on a scale, comparing it to the proper frequency. Tuning a string now simply means centring the pointer.
gp32v210. Guitare Pro Version 2.1 for Windows 95 is a Tablature editor for 4,5 and 6 strings. Features include Management of 8 tracks (7 instruments and percussion); Software in 6 languages; Complete interface (effects, chord diagrams, annotations, time signature, library tuning, transposition, etc.); Management of rhythms; Play the score via MIDI with a selection of the instruments, tempo, chorus, reverb, etc. for each track; Complete chord diagrams - all positions, recognised.
Mbtt20. Tab Transcriber v2.0 creates guitar tablature. It's DOS-based but runs in Windows 3.1 and Windows 95.
nutcho32. Nut Chords Pro - Win32. The most advanced FREEWARE chord finder in the world! Fretboard/keyboard view, conversions, all chords, all positions, scales, unlimited tunings and more. It's able to detect ALL CHORDS from keyboard and fretboard. Just press those keys and strings and what ever 3-6 notes is there will be analysed into a chord. It also shows you the first inversion. It has a full graphical fretboard view with unlimited tuning - you can tune it to what ever scale you want. You can detect all chords in all tunings in all positions, fingerings or what ever they are. In Scale Mode you can see scales, modes and arpeggios on the fretboard. You can also do Chord Diagrams of the current chord on the fretboard and save it as text.
MIDI Utils (MIDIUTIL)
arnmpstd: Arnold's MIDI Player with Karaoke. Plays MIDI files and displays lyrics in karaoke MIDI files.
arpegg14: Software Arpeggiator. This software implements a software MIDI arpeggiator. The delay between notes is adjustable (Arpeggio Delay), as well as the direction of the arpeggio (up only, down only, both up and down, random, in order received). The velocity from the MIDI data is used, unless the Enable constant velocity checkbox is checked. Then the velocity is constant at the value set by the velocity scrollbar. The channel used is always the same as the data coming in. So, you could hold down notes on two or more synthesisers transmitting on different channels, and it will arpeggiate between the synthesisers).
hld. Hubi's LoopBack device Version 2.5. This is a virtual MIDI driver for Windows3x/95 to connect multiple MIDI-programs. This package may be of use for You, if you work simultaneous with multiple MIDI programs in Windows (or want to do it), hate the Message "the MIDI device is currently in use by another ...", or simply want to hear the OPL2-FM chips of your SoundBlaster when you play your Waldorf Wave keyboard (can't get that noiz out). It allows you to use your favourite Synth-Editor together with your favourite MIDI Sequencer and combine the best of all MIDI programs. The package contains two programs: A MIDI driver, "Hubi's LoopBack Device", which must be installed via control panel. The driver offers virtual MIDI Ports (up to 4), which act as both Input and Output MIDI device. There is also a MIDI-Thru application, "Hubi's MIDI Cable", which connects Midi-Inputs with Midi Outputs. It is useful for quick connections between LoopBack Ports and Hardware Ports, or to play your Soundcard Synth from external MIDI keyboard. The two programs work independent, you can use only Midi-Loopback, or only Midi-Cable.
mf2t. MF2T and T2MF, two programs to manipulate standard MIDI files. mf2t is a program that reads a standard MIDI file (format 0 or 1) and writes an ASCII representation of it that is both compact and easily parsable. t2mf is the companion program that reparses the text representation into a MIDI file.
midifile. This archive contains a library of code to read and write standard MIDI files, a standard as defined by the MMA, the MIDI Manufacturer's Association. "make mftext" will compile a program that gives a verbose textual listing of a MIDI file, and is an example of how to read a file. "make mf1to0" will compile a program that demonstrates how to write MIDI files, and converts format 1 multitrack files to format 0. "make MIDI file.man" will produce a formatted manual page. Example MIDI files are named "example*.uu". They're uuencoded; "make uutomid" will uudecode them all. The first two examples (example1 and example2) are the examples given in the 0.06 version of the standard MIDI file specification.
midijoy. Midijoy v1.003 is an add-on for MultiMID which allows you to use the joystick to add MIDI controller information to a MIDI input device that is capable of adding virtual MIDI messages.
midilang. MidiLang v1.6 is a real-time MIDI processor which will process MIDI events while you play. It includes effects such as echo, delay and loop in live. And it can be used as a Post-Processor on Standard Midi Files (.mid files). It allows you to do any kind of Midi Mapping on any type of Midi Event, calculate best chords for a given melody, be able to add an auto bass based on your live playing, and it allows user-defined splits (not only those specified by the manufacturer of your keyboard). Users can also create their own effects with a simple but powerful MIDI Programming Language (MPL) interpreter or with the program's included compiler of Extended Midi Programming language (XPL) which is a little bit like C.
midimon. MIDI Monitor Version 2.01 is a Windows 3.1 program. It displays incoming MIDI streams, and passes the data to a MIDI output driver or the MIDI Mapper.
midiox. MIDI-OX 16 Version 3.00 a Windows 3.1+ program which displays incoming MIDI streams and passes the data to a MIDI output driver or the MIDI Mapper. The program was originally included in the MS Windows 3.1 SDK (as MIDI Monitor) but has been extensively modified.
midithru. MIDI Thruway 2.0 by Techno Toys is a program that makes connections between MIDI inputs and outputs in a Windows system. These connections, referred to as "thru" connections, allow you to connect a MIDI keyboard to your soundcard's MIDI synthesiser, without the use of a sequencer, and use your computer as a central MIDI patch bay, routing MIDI data from any combination of inputs to any number of outputs. It also allows individual MIDI messages to be filtered, and can remap MIDI channel messages from one channel to another. When used in conjunction with other members of the Techno Toys family, such as Seq-303, it can also record all data received for export as a MIDI file, for use in other sequencer programs.
midixer. MidiXer is a powerful utility program for handling MIDIX format files. These are simple binary files which hold one or more raw SysX data messages and nothing else. This format is frequently used to make MIDI synthesiser and other device patches available on the Internet and bulletin boards because of its simplicity. The files usually carry an extension of .SYX. MidiXer is designed to make working with MIDIX format files much easier. First, the program automatically builds a list of your MIDIX files. This list opens each time the program is run. Sending a MIDIX file is now a simple matter. Select the one, or multiple, files you need to send and choose transmit. You only have to find each of your MIDIX files once on your hard drive and MidiXer Pro can even do that for you if you want. MidiXer provides an extensive set of standard features which include creating, saving, loading, and transmitting MIDIX files. It is capable of extracting MIDIX data from a standard MIDI file and storing it. It also provides basic information on the file including the number of SysX messages stored, the size of the file, which manufacturer the data is for (includes most manufacturers), the date the file was created and the estimated amount of time required to send the file to the instrument.
midiyoke. MIDI yoke v 15.2 is a MIDI Patch Cable driver for Windows versions 3.1 through 95. It can connect any Windows MIDI application output to any other applications input. The MIDI data stream is passed directly from output to input. This allows you to connect the MIDI output from one program to the MIDI input of a different program. MIDI Yoke can be configured to provide a varying number of MIDI Ports (from 1 to 8). In addition, each port allows multiple openings of both input and outputs: up to 3 openings per port.
mmid30. MultiMID v3.00 can add an overlay or layer on top of other MIDI drivers, making it possible to have up to 8 simultaneous connections to an underlying MIDI driver - that should be enough for all musical purposes... While the layering that MultiMID performs slows MIDI communications down a little bit (as MIDI messages have to be routed though, to or from the REAL MIDI driver), it is a very flexible approach in that it is not limited to any underlying hardware architecture. The communications overhead is neglectible considering the REAL MIDI data transfer rate of 31.25 kbaud. There are two versions of MultiMID: a demo version and a registered version. Starting with V3.00, the demo version handles PnP device drivers just like the registered version does, but will stop sending notes to attached MIDI devices after 3.000 notes. This should be enough for evaluation purposes. To restart MultiMID, just restart Windows.
mwdiag. A MIDI diagnostic program by Music Works, ostensible to test a system to see if it is suitable for running Music Works software. It checks the MIDI Ins and Outs, timers, Windows version (you may get a surprise!) and several other items.
smc3dem1. SoftMC V3.0 is specifically designed for real time control and automation of effects processors, mixers, and other MIDI controlled devices. With SoftMC V3.0 it is possible to create complete SMPTE time code automated effects sub-mix systems using MIDI controlled mixers and effects processors while maintaining real time parameter level control over each device. SoftMC's V3.0 utilises a scaleable plug-in architecture so new device support can be added as the plug-ins are developed. It allows control over virtually any MIDI device available. The amount of control is dependent upon the devices own MIDI implementation.
swmiarp. Sweet MIDI Arpeggiator for Windows (version 1.9) is a software implementation of an arpeggiator often found on older synthesisers. It contains four arpeggiators (arpeggio objects) which will arpeggiate any MIDI notes that arrive. The arpeggiators may run from the internal tempo engine or synchronise to another software sending tempo information (MIDI Clock messages). Settings may be saved and latter loaded back into the software.
swmiharm. Sweet MIDI Harmonizer v 1.0 is a computer version of an intelligent harmonizer. It contains three harmonises (harmonizer objects) which will harmonise any MIDI notes that arrives, according to desired settings such as key and scale type and scale. Settings may be saved and latter loaded back into the software.
Misc (MISC)
cdrlab20. CD-R Label is a Windows 95/3.1 tool for creating labels for your CD-Recordable and CD-ROM disks. It is different from all other label utilities in that it can produce nicely formatted catalogues on these labels, allowing you to easily find what files a CD-ROM contains without even opening the case! With version 2.0, both AUDIO and DATA CD labels can be created.
k95setup. Kaleidoscope is a fantastic, colourful, and beautiful screen saver for Windows by Syntrillium, the company which produces Cool Edit. If you have a sound card in your computer, you can choose to have Kaleidoscope flow and change in time to your music. The music coming into your sound card controls various parameters, making strikingly beautiful patterns that would never be possible by just adjusting the given parameters. The audio being monitored will continually adjust Kaleidoscope, causing totally different designs to appear depending on the style of music being played. There are lots of controls you can adjust including: Symmetry, Free Floating, Spin Splitting, Line Size, Colouring Rotation, Trail Length, Snazziness
Speed, Bands, Rotations, Band Width, Cheese Size, Polite, Cheese Type, Audio, Depth, Favourites, Width, and Messages.
kinegl21. The Kinemorphic 3D Screen Saver v1.21 will animate an endless variety of awesome 3D patterns and images. As the 3D patterns animate on your screen, the objects, images, lighting, and colours will move through, around, and on top of each other. Kinemorphics has been designed to give you an unprecedented amount of control over the effects used. You can use your own graphical images as object textures and backgrounds while Kinemorphics generates super-realistic lighting effects on top of super-realistic "living" 3D objects. The Kinemorphic 3D Screen Saver has been designed to work in conjunction with CD/Spectrum Pro v3.1 (or later) in order to provide stunning 3D visual effects that synchronize with the sounds from an audio device (like the CD player in your computer). With many module controls, you can associate a sound frequency, a range of effect, and a sensitivity. Fluctuations in the amplitude of the frequency will oscillate the control values within the range of effect. Kinemorphics will work with both Windows 95 and Windows 95 (v4.0 and up). OpenGL 1.1 (or higher) is also required. OpenGL 1.1 will be installed along with Kinemorphics if your system does not yet have OpenGL 1.1 AND you run kinegl21.exe (rather than kine21.exe) or download and extract kinegl21.zip (rather than kine21.zip). OpenGL 1.1 for Windows NT 4.0 is included with the operating system and does not need to be installed separately.
midiartlive. MIDIART Live is the first computer software application designed specifically to transform both live and pre-recorded MIDI data streams into psychedelic computer graphic imagery. The images generated by MIDIART are derived directly from the musical information embedded within the MIDI data stream. This gives the performing musician the ability to visualise the music they are performing in real time. With MIDIART Live, music can now be visualised directly using MIDI and a computer, without the need for expensive multimedia producers, graphic artists, and animators. MIDIART Live also takes advantage of the control information that can be embedded in the MIDI data stream, to give the performing musician or video artist interactive control over the graphic parameters used by the image generating algorithms in MIDIART.
mousng23.exe. MouSing is a sort of computer-based Theramin. The program varies the pitch and volume of a tone according to how you move the mouse. That's about it!
mwplay10. MIDIWork Player v1.0 plays special MIDI files and generates images from the music. Both the video and the music are synchronised because the graphic images are actually triggered by the musical events recorded in the MIDI file. A MIDIWork file does not contain all the software required to create a performance on your PC. This is the job of the MIDIWorks Player. Once you have installed the MIDIWorks Player on your PC, it will automatically be called upon to reproduce a performance whenever you execute a MIDIWork file. Because the MIDIWorks Player contains most of the software required to reproduce a performance, MIDIWork files can be very small in size. This makes them easier and faster to download over the Internet. A MIDIWork file is created using a special software program called MIDIART Live.
TosWin95. An emulator to allow you to run Atari ST programs on a PC. It's in German.
wchime24. WinChime version 2.4. Relax to the peaceful sounds of wind chimes from your computer. WinChime is a random musical note player for Win95/WinNT4. Using the MIDI synthesiser capabilities of your sound card, the program creates a sound environment to reduce stress or help mask out noise while working at your PC. The program is designed to create pleasing customised sounds with very little tweaking from the user, with a modest number of powerful controls. A built-in timer allows advanced set-ups to simulate "gusts" of wind, or turn music on and off at programmed times. Multiple set-ups may be saved. Context sensitive help is provided. MIDI files may be generated for use in other programs.

digitr32. Digitracker v3.2. The latest version of one of the original tracker-type programs. DOS-based but it runs under Win95. A load of features. The archive includes 2MDL, a fast, easy to use "sound to mdl" converter. With 2MDL you can convert hundreds of modules at once.
ft208. FastTracker v2.08. Another tracker of the old-school, DOS-based but it runs in a shell. Lots of features.
it214. Impulse Tracker v2.14 is a program used to create high quality music without the requirements of specialised, expensive equipment. The hardware requirements are for a 386 compatible computer (although a 486+ is recommended), and a VGA or higher video card. Impulse Tracker supports direct control over 64 channels, and can load and play the following formats: S3M, MTM, MOD and of course, IT. At the moment, modules can only be saved in the IT and S3M formats.

mikit10b2. MIDI Kit, an oddly-named jukebox-type player for XM, MOD, S3M, IT and PLT files. No MIDI support.
mpt100a6. ModPlug Tracker v1.00 alpha 6, a genuine tracker and player for Windows 95. Supports the main tracker file formats modus operandi - and all from a windows interface.
Mwaves. Making Waves Demo. A Mod-like sequencer. You load samples into tracks and use a pattern-based approach to play the samples at various pitches and for different durations to construct a song.
rippr500. The Ripper! A ripper is a program that let you extract different files out of Demos, Games or others so you can get all the MUS-MIDI files from Doom or all the MOD-files from the demo "Unreal". Features include a sequential search for over 70 file formats / over 90 subformats. It searches for significant bytes and calculates the RIGHT file size. You can define an unlimited number of user-strings to search for (by editing the ripper5.cfg to define them), It has automatic extraction from 12 file libraries (if a known FLib is found, all files can be extracted without searching). Many more features.
rt223. Real Tracker v2.23 is a sound tracker which is also possible to control external MIDI devices. Features include 32 tracks, surround mode for each track, up to 255 instruments, up to 999 patterns, up to 999 positions, 8 and 16 bits samples, 10 octaves, and Volume and panning envelopes support.
wav2xi12. WAV_2_XI v1.2, an 8/16 bit WAV to XI converter. Features include crossfade loop detection, frequency to FT2, FineTune conversion, amplification trigger, and zero cross handling.
Movies-MPEG (MPEGS)
maplay1a. maplay 1.2 for Win32, a free, software-only MPEG audio player. The latest version supports CD audio and you can either open .CDA files from your CD-ROM drive, or use the CD List command to create a playlist with the CD-ROM tracks.
winamp173. WinAMP 1.73 is the premier Layer 3 MPEG Audio player for Windows 95 and NT. It provides all the features and performance you would expect in a mp3 player at once (as opposed to other players which provide some of the features and performance).
Net Utils (NETUTILS)
adwiper10: AdWiper 1.0. AdWiper works within your web browser to automatically filter web pages as they are loaded to remove many of the advertisements from the web. AdWiper is an add-on for Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher. AdWiper can not remove every advertisement from every web page. In an informal test visiting a dozen or so of the more popular web sites, AdWiper was able to remove 80% of the ads. (Some sites were 100% Wiped, most were at least 50% Wiped.) Your experience will vary depending on the web sites you visit.
btlr3214. Download Butler 1.4b - Keeps track of ALL your downloads and where you put them. Allows unpacking, modifying descriptions, URL tracking to remember where you got the file and so much more. A must have for any surfer! Unique tabbed notebook allows you to keep all your files in their own category. Has built in unzipper as well as the ability to pass file details to external applications. mrcoo105. Mr. Cool v1.05 saves you money and time hanging around on line for large files to download from slow sites. Files are sent by e-mail and you download later at high speed. How does it work? You're browsing the web and you click on a link for a file and get told that download is going to take a long time. So you cancel it and with a couple of clicks, you transfer the job to Mr. Cool. A request goes to a "by mail" server which collects the file and e-mails it to you. Collect the file with your mail later - at the high speed you normally download mail.
mwolf103.exe. MP3-Wolf is a Robot that scans Web Sites looking for music related files, FTP Sites and Resource Links. It works on the same concept as other bots on the net such as Altavista, Webcrawler etc, however it only targets sites with music content, the results are returned in real time. The speciality of MP3-Wolf is locating files within Internet's Web space. These are usually missed by FTP search engines, and conventional Crawlers. MP3-Wolf has a built-in ability to learn and map out the network each time you use it, and it will become better at locating Files with each use. Using a 28.8 K dialup line, MP3-Wolf will be eventually able to locate and catalogue 10000's of resources per hour. The unregistered version has many restrictions You cannot restart searches and will thus loose the benefit of previous sessions. Report files will display and Play advertisements for recording artists, and you will not be able to automatically disable the Audio Stream. The maximum number of concurrent connections is restricted to 10. The maximum number of files you will be able to index is restricted.
Notation (NOTATION)
mozart31. Mozart v3.1 is a Music Processor for Windows. Using only the computer keyboard, you can create and edit sheet music. This can be printed with high-quality TrueType symbols on printers supported by Windows, and appears on the screen in standard notation as a WYSIWYG display. The primary objective of MOZART is to print parts for musicians, but MIDI files can be exported to provide an "aural preview" on multimedia PCs. Features include: instant transposition; automatic default quaver tail groupings; automatic bar-line entry; exporting MIDI files either "straight" or with "swing"; extensive on-line help. Mozart is Shareware.
net_mw2.exe. Music Works Internet version 2.3 build 49. Music Works is a powerful music scoring, recording and editing program for Microsoft Windows. It can record from and playback to MIDI devices such as a synthesiser, and produce music notation that can be edited, and rearranged before printing out in colour or black and white.
Players (PLAYERS)
Cdspro33. CD/Spectrum Pro is a CD-Audio player with built-in graphical spectrum analyser. It was designed to run on Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0. Version 3.3 was designed to run in conjunction with The Psychedelic Screen Saver v3.9 and The Kinemorphic 3D Screen Saver v2.1 to provide stunning visuals that are synchronised to the beat of the music you play on the CD.
midimm31. MIDI Made Music for Windows is a full featured jukebox player for use on your Windows PC. It plays MIDI, Wave, CD-Audio, AU, AIFF, SND, MP2 and MP3 file types. It also plays Microsoft Video, Apple QuickTime Video and MPEG Video. You can add up to 10,000 of your own selections to the Jukebox database, and it has custom edit feature.
midip155. MidiPlus 1.55 has a CD-player-like interface. It has no repeat, repeat once, and continuous repeat functions. There are two Modes: Open and List Mode. In Open mode it works like the Windows Media Player, opening and playing one file at a time. In List mode, you put together lists of multiple MIDI files to play back-to-back, creating as many lists as you want. The program can be minimised on the system tray and can be easily made your default MIDI player. It supports MIDI, WAV and AVI files in the same list.
muscdpl. The Musician's CD Player! If you're a musician who likes to learn new songs and techniques by listening to the same piece of music over and over but wish that the music could be played a little slower, then you'll enjoy Musician's CD Player. This 32-bit program works with your CD-ROM drive to record .Waves at desired "slow down" rates from 20% to 200%. The sound is stretched without changing the pitch, or the pitch can be adjusted down by one octave. You can record the .wav files at any of the standard sampling rates and frequencies and save them in converted or unconverted states.
Musicbar. There are many kind of programs that acts as a jukebox for MIDI songs. This is designed for Windows 95 and uses very little. The program is accessed from the Windows task bar just like the sound control or date applets.
scrndnc2. ScreenDance is a CD player that comes packed with a library of sound-activated animations, making multimedia PCs come alive with dazzling light and colour. Play a CD or sing into the microphone - watch as your PC moves to the music! Includes a mixer, configurable playlist, disc/track title database, and screen saver. supsonic. Supersonic Pro v 2.0, a Rack-Mount Sound System with Mixer, CD Player, Sample Player, Sample Editor, Tuner (Radio), Real-Time 16 Band Spectrum Analyzer, Wave Analyzer, 3-D Spectrum Analyzer, Disc Jockey System, Studio Clock and lots more. All devices are rack mount like your stereo system and can be customised.
wink-c11. WinKaraoke Creator 1.1 is a fully featured and functional MIDI Karaoke file editor being released as Shareware. It allows users to add lyrics to standard MIDI files without any knowledge of MIDI sequencers or the MIDI file format.
wink-p10. WinKaraoke Player 1.0 is a fully featured and functional MIDI Karaoke player for use under the Windows 95 operating system. A few of its features include: Animated Bouncing Ball, Support for Windows 95 Long Filenames and Support for TrueType Fonts.
Plug-ins (PLUG_INS)
FX32DitherDemo.exe. FX Dither 32 plug-in module Demo for SAW Plus 32 v1.9 or SAW 32 v1.9. Windows 95 or NT required.
h_dx_demo. Hyperprism-DX DEMO 1.0. A collection of three fully-working DirectX plug-ins from Arboretum's Hyperprism plug-in software. It will run on any Pentium 166 machine or greater, with 32 Mb of RAM, running Windows 95 with a windows compatible sound card and an audio application taking DirectX plug-ins. These include Sonic Foundry Sound Forge, Cakewalk's Cakewalk Pro Audio, Steinberg WaveLab and Cubase-VST for Windows and Syntrillium Cool Edit Pro. The 3 plug-ins are Ring Modulator, Echo and Vibrato and they are fully operational with no limitations.
Nophones. NoPhones v1.00 plug-in for Cubase VST v1.00. NoPhones is supposed to counter-act the absolute stereo you get with headphones. (why-o-why I hear you ask...) When we hear stuff under normal environmental conditions, sounds from any location in our auditory field reach both ears, the contralateral (opposite side) ear receiving a somewhat attenuated and phase-shifted version of the signal that the ipsilateral ear receives (There is also the head-related transfer function, the weird spectrum adjustment due to lumpy body bits resonating, cancelling and bending various frequencies in various ways, but whoah-ho-ho, we'll just leave that for the moment...!). This plug-in is just a quick-n-dirty experiment that allows you to change the amount of contralateral channel crossover and delay, so that you can let all those neurons that have been trained to spatialise and locate sound sources do a little of their thing.
PremAmbiDemo.exe.. The Ambience Extractor Plug-in for Adobe Premier v4.2 or later consists of four tools, namely the Maxx Stereo, Ambience Extractor, the Mono To Stereo Converter, and the Centre Channel Remover, together in a single simple to use plug-in. The Ambience Extractor is used to improve and compensate for flaws in stereo recordings. It simply sweetens and broadens the spaciousness of the stereo image. It can also be used for recovering, modifying, and widening the stereo information not readily heard (Maxx Stereo and Ambience Modes), creating a stereo recording from a mono source (Mono To Stereo Mode), removing the centre information (Remove Centre mode - voice cancellation), and simply panning and controlling the gain. The Ambience Extractor is not a 3D sound rendering program. It uses classic audio processing principles and offers a high level of digital precision, mono compatibility, with minimal distortion. The Ambience Extractor is used to adjust the stereo level, balance and mix. It does have the ability to greatly increase the overall volume and widen the stereo image. For example you can reposition a centre image of a sound source which has been improperly recorded, or adjust the left or right channels without affecting the centre information. The Ambience Extractor's 32-bits of precision is maintained for all processing.
Pipdemo. More demos for VST from Object Productions. Before using these you must install the normal Vintage Power Pak Demo. Effects include 7-Band EQ, Compressor,, Fat EQ, Gate, Peak Doctor and Traditional EQ.
TXmitter. The Trancemitter plug-in by Steinberg for Cubase VST. Modelled on a hardware analogue control panel, it features large rotary dials and sliders. Parameters include Cutoff, Resonance and Level Tracking, and the LFO section has a selection waveforms, and Frequency and Trigger controls. Drop the .dll into the VST Plug-ins folder.
Vppdemo. Vintage Power Pack Demo plug-ins for VST by Object Productions. Copy the plug-ins to the VST Plug-ins folder. Load the plug-in in VST, load the associated presets, power up and you're ready to go! After 60 seconds the demo will time out. However you DO NOT need to unload and reload the plug-in; simply power off and on the plug in! That way your cool preset that you've been tweaking to perfection is intact -- just turn it back on! You can even load and save your own presets! Effects include delay, flanger, phaser, reverb, multiFX and chorus.
Sequencing (SEQUENCE)
chordplw. Chordplay is a tool written for musicians who are playing a solo instrument like saxophone or lead guitar and who want to improve their improvisation skills. It allows one to enter the basic harmonies of a piece of music in an intuitive text format, as it is used in many books about jazz harmony. While Chordplay can play back those harmonies on your MIDI-compatible soundcard in various, user-defined styles, you can try to play the melody line or improvise with your solo instrument. Furthermore, Chordplay can help you to learn more about jazz harmony, especially when used with one of the numerous books which are available on this topic. You can quickly type in the examples given in those books, hear them and play around with your own modifications.
Cm32uv. Chord Manager 32 for Windows 95 and NT. One of the new features of CM32 is the drag & drop sequence composition... just try to drag a chord from chord manager to the sequence window... While dragging a chord you can scroll the sequence window by placing mouse over the right scrollbar arrows. Many menu commands are available also from the context menu. Just right click into the sequence window. The registered version contains more chords and more scales and you can also save the sequences.
drumwiz.exe. The Drum Wizard is a pattern-based music composing tool It may be somewhat different than other music composing tools that you have experience with. Its value is in its uniqueness to allow you to create musical patterns in real-time and then use those patterns in song-sequences. Many of the sample patterns supplied with this shareware are greater than 1 bar in length. You can only edit and create patterns that are 1 bar until the software is registered therefore you will only be able to audition many of the sample patterns provided and not be able to edit them.
jz32v30r. JAZZ++ Sequencer. JAZZ is a full size MIDI sequencer providing functions like record / play and many edit functions as quantize, copy, transpose, graphical pitch editing, ... multiple undo/redo. It has two main windows operating on whole tracks and single events. There are special functions like GS sound editing and random rhythm generation. JAZZ++ is an enhanced version of JAZZ providing features like audio sample play/record, audio/MIDI integration and more. Please note that without a license, audio will be low-pass filtered (sound bad) after a few seconds of playing.
mstud41. MIDI Studio is a Windows 3.1 based MIDI player/sequencer. It uses a staff to work with music files, so it is targeted at someone who has some musical theory background, or who wants to learn something about musical theory. MIDI Studio will work with any MIDI device supporting Multimedia Extensions. This includes Sound Blaster, Adlib, and Roland MPU-401 type of devices, including the MT-32, LAPC, SCC-1 family of devices.
music_draw. Music Draw 3.2 is a music sequencer for people who want to make music without having to learn music theory or play an instrument. It lets you easily make decent sounding music by only letting you enter notes that sound good. Of course, you can still enter off-key notes, but you do that only if you choose to. The "key" of the song can be easily changed through a menu without moving the notes on the Music Draw "staff". Groups of notes can be entered and manipulated so you hear musically similar results no matter what key you pick. Rhythm is entered like most other "piano-roll" type sequencers, but it also helps by constraining where you can put the notes, like a drum style sequencer. Music Draw uses the Roland GS standard to let you access hundreds of realistic sounding instruments without any cryptic MIDI commands.
powdemo.exe. Power Chords Pro v2.0.07c is a powerful song creation tool. Its unique object oriented approach to music makes songwriting quick and easy. Music objects are represented graphically so no knowledge of notation or MIDI data is required. Power Chords views music as being composed of small chunks of various types. These music 'objects' include melodies, bass parts, chords, chord rhythms, drum parts and controls. To write a song in Power Chords, you create the objects that make up the song, and then drag them into place in a song framework with the mouse. Power Chords reflects the interactive nature of music composition by giving you the opportunity to exchange different music objects as the song takes shape. You can easily audition various parts or chords by clicking on them with the right mouse button to see which will fit in a particular section of music. To edit a chunk of music you simply drag it to the Rhythm Editor, make your changes, audition as you go, and then drag the item back to its place in the song. One nice thing about putting songs together in Power Chords is that drum parts and chord rhythms repeat automatically once placed in a bar. They change only when superseded by a different part of the same type later in the song. Most sequencers are track based - the music is stored in a number of linear tracks which run the entire length of the song. Power Chords is pattern based meaning that the music is made up from a number of patterns which can be easily swapped in and out of the song. A single pattern can appear more than once in the song, saving you from having to record or enter the same information twice, or from undergoing a cumbersome copy operation. You can move the pattern into the song with one mouse movement, and change it just as easily.

rave. Rave is a MIDI Sequencer, a MIDI Music Editor specially designed for people who are composing or laying down tracks for Rave music otherwise known as Techno or Acid. Rave treats each piece of music as a block consisting of up to 32 different tracks. Each track is like a single track on a multi-track recorder. Hence Rave could be thought of as a complex multi-track recorder. However it doesn't record music in the conventional sense; instead it stores MIDI data which describes each note in the music. Features include event, grid and score editing.
rbzpdemo. Rhythm Brainz Plus demo, a real-time pattern-based sequencer. It may be used for composing simple musical compositions. When using percussive & drum voices, Rhythm Brainz is the ultimate drum machine/Beat Box and as a drum and rhythm composition tool capable of exporting Standard MIDI Files, Rhythm Brainz makes a perfect complement to any MIDI Sequencer. Reborn. Base Reborn v1.5 is the all new Rebirth mixermap for Cubase PC. Using the Hubi's loopback device that comes with Rebirth or another Virtual Midi Router (easily found on the web) use the controls in the mixermap to record real time changes into Cubase.
s16wshar. Sweet Sixteen is a sequencer program that allows you to record, edit and playback all types of MIDI events and store them to disk. The resolution is 192 PPQN (ticks per quarter note) and thanks to the multitasking capability you can use almost every command while Sweet Sixteen is running. You will need a PC-compatible computer, minimum 386SX, 16 MHz, with at least 2 Megabytes of RAM and Windows 3.1 or later. You will also need some kind of sound source, either a soundcard with MIDI capabilities or a MIDI interface and an external synthesiser. Features include 24 tracks in each pattern, Graphic note editing, Auto Punch In/Out recording, in Song Mode you have an extra 24 tracks in pattern 17 which is running in parallel alongside the arrange list - useful for solos, percussion tracks, volume/program changes etc. The Cycle Recording function jumps back without a glitch and also automatically quantises each round without interrupting the musical time.
seq303.exe. Seq-303 v2.0 is an analogue sequencer emulator for Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0. Seq-303 was inspired by many of the great analogue sequencers of yore, including the Moog 960, Serge TKB, ARP 1613, Paia 4780, Korg SQ-10, and of course the venerable Roland TB-303. With Seq-303, you'll be able to recreate many of the musical styles produced by sequencer artists of the past, as well as modern styles such as techno and house music. All it requires is a PC, a sound card and/or synthesiser, and a little imagination. Thanks to Seq-303's use of configurable NRPN controllers, you can even use it to get techno-style sounds out of inexpensive 'consumer' keyboards.
tbox2b15. tekknoBOX is the first software MIDI sequencer for Windows aimed specifically at the creation of dance music, ranging anywhere from house to straight banging techno to breakbeat to industrial noise. The design of tekknoBOX was based closely to the process of music making using analogue sequencers and drum machines, most notable the Roland TR-909 and the Doepher analogue sequencer. The design goal of tekknoBOX was to create something simpler to use than a conventional Windows sequencer while maintaining all the advantages and ease of those sequencers. But, simply put, for the making of dance music - nothing comes close to the ease of programming of the old analogue gear used in a typical techno or house studio set-up.
V909v03. The Virtual 909 v3 is a software sequencer which was designed to emulate the Roland TR-909. Like a real 909, it is geared towards the creation of rhythm-based music. You create your MIDI-based music by writing "patterns" which can be looped, chained together, or organised into a "song". Patterns are made up of 48 "tracks". Each track can be thought of as a 909 "instrument". You assign one (and only one) MIDI note or controller to a track and then you enter the rhythm for that note. The rhythm for a given track is entered and displayed beside the MIDI note information on 32 "triggers". Triggers can represent different note lengths, depending on the timing assigned to the pattern. When you first start V-909, the initial pattern is set to 4/4 timing - this means that each trigger is one 1/16th note, and the 32 triggers represent 2 measures. By creating these rhythms for different notes (which may be assigned to different channels and ports) you can quickly create complex, funky rhythms which can be looped or chained together in any order. In addition, the triggers allow you to add duration to the notes so that V-909 can play synth leads, chords, etc. - something a real 909 can't do.
winjammr. WinJammer Version 2.10 a fully featured MIDI sequencer for Windows 3.x. It uses standard MIDI files and contains a companion program called WinJammer Player, which is used to play MIDI song files in the background. Major features include: imports Adlib ROL files, up to 64 tracks, runs in ALL Windows modes (including enhanced mode), very powerful editing commands, unique piano roll style notation for editing, full on-line help, supports standard MIDI files, supports MIDI system exclusive bulk dumps, supports Windows Multimedia Extensions.

Awedm090. AWE Dumper 0.9. With this program you can save on your disk the ROM of AWE32 card. You can save in 2 formats .RAW and .WAV. AWE32 Dumper check memory size too.
Awemid06: AWE MIDI Player. The purpose of this program is to play your favourite Midi-Files (*.MID). If you own a Sound-Blaster AWE32 or equivalent, the program can automatically load a set of Sound-Banks (*.SBK or *.SF2) before playing each song. Midi-Files especially composed for the AWE32 sound-card often come with a Sound-Bank that has the same name as the .MID file, but with a .SF2 or .SBK extension. The program searches for such a sound-bank in the same directory as the Midi-File, then in a subdirectory you can specify yourself in the option dialog box (example: C:\SB16\SBK). For a few Midi-Files, the default behaviour won't meet your needs, because the song may come with a set of Sound-Banks that have to be loaded simultaneously into the AWE32. Sometimes, many Midi-Files use the same Sound-Banks and the default behaviour will also be inadequate. For all your special Sound-Bank needs, the program has a special dialog-box where you can associate up to 127 Sound-Banks with each Midi-File. Of course, AWE Midi Player will remember all the associations between sessions.
awet1g4: AWETOY is the SB32/AWE32 user's best friend, second only to a software sequencer in its functionality. AWETOY can be used to change sound font banks and set and preview instruments as well, but perhaps its most important function is that it can behave as a filter that connects your MIDI keyboard to your software sequencer. Use a virtual MIDI driver such as MIDImux or mrouter. Then tie the output of your MIDI keyboard to the input of AWETOY, and the output of AWETOY to the one of the inputs on your sequencer. The functionality of AWETOY is described by the "tab".
fmsynth. FM Midi Synth driver Version 2.14 is a replacement driver for sound cards hat implement FM synthesis. It features an extensive MIDI implementation as well as support for loadable instrument banks and a Control Panel applet for run-time configuration of driver parameters. It is designed to work with as many different sound cards from various manufacturers as possible. A new voice allocation algorithm has been implemented that chooses the oldest "off" voice when picking the next free voice to use. The archive also includes FMSYN.CAL, a CAL program that will launch the FM Synth applet from within Cakewalk. It requires Cakewalk for Windows version 2.0 (or above), and can be easily bound to a key sequence for quick launching. FMSYN.DRM, is a set of DRMs (Dump Request Macros) for getting System Exclusive information from the driver. In order to use it, just insert the file into your WINCAKE.INI file. Ensure that you have the "FM Synth (jwo) SysEx Input" driver selected as one of the MIDI Input drivers. The Macros work with all versions of Cakewalk Professional for Windows.

wbman411. The Wave Blaster Manipulator demo version 4.11. The Waveblaster is a daughterboard for the SoundBlaster 16 and AWE32 series. Wave Blaster Manipulator is a Windows application that provides everything that the WB Panel application (coming with the WaveBlaster) does NOT provide - the ability to create new presets, instant audition of new presets with built-in keyboard simulation, the ability to send any MIDI message, merge patch banks with instant audition of the sounds, and upload data from the Waveblaster.

agsi123e. agSI v1.2.3 is a system information tool running under DOS which gives hundreds of items of information about hardware/system, operating system, memory, software, and drives, for example, processor (incl. Pentium specific things), BIOS, BIOS extensions and so on. It has many additional functions, such as changing system settings and disk formatting. Non-crippled Shareware.
checkdir. Directory Checker is a powerful tool for comparing and storing states of disk or directory contents, files. Uses CRC when compares files in different time zone. The Directory Checker_ scans automatically all sub directories, calculates CRC where the time stamp of the file can not be used, and can save scans of directories for future comparison. Storing Master files with CRC encoded, enables the detection of any byte changed in any file. So the Directory Checker_ can be also used as an early virus detector. A small program with great performances, powered with ADS32. A fully operational demo, which can easily be turned into a licensed software by receiving your personal key code.
dirsize. Use Diretory Size to track space hogs on your file servers, find out how much disk space you are wasting, or find out EXACTLY how much space an application takes up so you can delete it and install another. You can exclude directories by depth or size, and sort by many criteria. Automatically paginates output. Rounds up file sizes to the cluster size for the most accurate size information. Sorting can be disabled. Output can be redirected to a file or printer. Continuous progress indicator.
freemem. Free Memory Tool v 2 enables you to gain control over your physical memory. You can allocate and free any specified amount of memory. This makes Microsoft Windows95 or Microsoft Windows NT operating systems swap out unused programs and DLLs. The effect is that you get more free physical RAM which makes working a lot smoother. You can verify the effects by watching the easy to understand statistics.

Zip & UnZip are compatible with ZIP files created by the PKWARE's PkZIP Program (1.x, 2.x). The files Zip.exe, UnZip.exe, and UnZipSFX.exe are included in this archive. Zip and UnZip are freeware products of Info-ZIP. Users of Zip Control have a "point and click" view of the contents of ZIP files and can create new ZIP files. Mbug20d. Millennium Bug detector. This archive contains two problems which check for the two manifestations of the Millennium Bug. When 200 arrives, the first bug could reset the date of the PC to 1900. The second, less-well publicised, relates to the calculation of 2000 as a leap year.
simf021. SimFuz v0.21 is a little freeware Application that allows the user to create a specific set of files and paths to search in. Unlike as in normal search, SimFuz searches linewise and with a simple Fuzzy-Algorithm. So you can specify any Searchstrings though you don't know the right writing. To tell SimFuz how to differentiate, you have to specify the minimum threshold in percent. If you leave SimFuz with saving, the same file set and options will be loaded on next start, providing you are starting it from the same directory again. SimFuz saves the fileset in a textfile named: simfzl02.txt.
Wintn975. WinTune 97 release 1 is Wintune 97 is meant only for the release version (build 950) of Windows 95 or later, and for Windows NT 3.51 or later. It analyses your PC system including the BIOS, CPU, memory, video, hard disk and so on.
xset20. K/oS X-Setup 2.0 for Win95/NT. With X-Setup you are able to control most of the hidden features of Windows. wrar202.exe. WinRAR 2.02 is a 32-bit Windows version of the RAR archiver which is becoming popular on the net, particularly for compressing audio and multimedia files. It is a powerful tool which allows you to create, manage and control archive files. There are several versions of RAR, for a number of operating environments, currently available: RAR for DOS, OS/2, Windows (32-bit) and Unix (Linux, BSD and SCO). There are three versions of RAR for Windows: a console version for Windows 95 and Windows NT, a version with Windows 3.1 standard user interface for Windows 3.1 with Win32s installed, Windows 95 and Windows NT, and a version with Windows 95 user interface for Windows 95 (WinRAR 95). WinRAR features highly sophisticated, original compression algorithm; Special multimedia compression algorithm; Shell interface including drag-and-drop facility; Command line interface. The multimedia compression will be of particular interest to musicians. It is intended to be used primarily when compressing raw digital audio data such as WAV's up to four 8-bit or two 16-bit channels but also shows good results with true colour (24-bit) bitmaps. An improvement in the compression ratio, of up to 30%, may be expected over normal compression.
Virtual Synths (VIRTSYNT)
Ac30.exe: Audio Compositor. Software for realising standard MIDI files directly as digital audio. Scores that are not too demanding can be processed in real time and played on your computer's sound card. Alternatively, the output may be directed to a .WAV file for later playback--and in this mode Audio Compositor can deal comfortably with extremely complex scores and extraordinarily large collections of input samples. Audio Compositor can also be driven in real time from your computer's MIDI IN port--that is, it can act as a sound module that you can play from your MIDI keyboard. In addition to its own file formats, Audio Compositor reads patch banks in E-mu System's SoundFont 2.0 format, many of which are available on the Internet or from commercial sources.
axs200d. AXS - Another eXperimental Synth. AXS is a MIDI based program. MIDI supports up to 16 different 'channels'. Each channel can be configured to play a different sound (a MIDI sound is often called a preset). The buttons 1..7 and P represent MIDI channels 1..8. Selecting one of these buttons will cause the screen to be updated with the parameters of the sound/preset you've just selected. AXS has a 128-preset bankfile called AXS.BNK. This file is loaded at start-up and presets can be read (selecting a preset) or written (storing a preset). When you quit AXS, the file AXS.BNK is updated. AXS has 8 edit buffers, one for each MIDI channel. Each buffer contains all the data of one sound. The synthesiser uses these buffers for playback.
dfc097. Defractor is a digital software synthesiser engine with a sample generator. It's purpose is to help musicians build new and acid samples for their tunes. Defractor is based on 32 Bit float core and features 2 oscillator, 2 envelope generator, 2 deforming section. It has built-in filters: smoothing (low-pass), pinch/punch, sliding and overdrive. It can save samples in .RAW, .WAV and .XI formats. Its instruments can be saved in .DFC and .DF2 formats. Defractor is a FREEWARE software.
GenDemo12_Install_eng. This is a demo of Native Instruments' Generator, a software-based modular synthesiser which generates sounds in real-time and outputs them through a multimedia sound card or Emagic's Audiowerk8. It uses highly graphic modules such as oscillators, envelope generators, filters and so on, and virtual patch chords to join them together. The sounds can be controlled via a MIDI sequencer running on the same PC. Features include the polyphonic, transposing sample-player module and the audio-in module which allows you to use GENERATOR as a realtime multi-effect processor. It runs under Windows 96 and NT.
GenDemoLibrary.exe. A Library of instruments, modules and ensmbles for the Generator program.
GrannyBeta4. GranuLab. Granular synthesis is the technology of creating complex sound by playing back many short and relatively simple sound fragments with varying parameters. Merely using a sine and controlling length, pitch and density of grains, several types of sound can be generated. It is however more exciting to use a concrete sound sample. Good raw material includes speech, instrument or ambient sounds, or indeed synthetic sounds produced with Csound, GranuLab or some other program. In this case, granulation means cutting up the sound into short segments and controlling how these are played back. GranuLab is a real-time generator of sound grains. Use the built-in sine wave or load a soundfile as raw material for sound production. Features: Real-time control over time-stretching and pitch of a sound; Full (and dynamic) control over which part of a loaded sound is used at any time; Amplitude modulation of most grain generation parameters (when using a sound file); Randomisation of most parameters; Store parameter sets (patches) and transform seamlessly from one to another; Special window where four patches can be selected and gestural morphing between patches can be done in real-time by mouse control; Full MIDI support. Streaming of output to wav file (with no noticeable performance loss); Choose output sample rate, mono/stereo etc independently of input sound file; The input sound is completely resampled (with linear interpolation), so its sample rate does not affect performance. Only 16-bit WAV files are supported.
RBmodkit-full. ReNovator is a tool to create new exciting "mods" (modifications) of ReBirth 338. Technically, it lets you exchange bitmap and audio resources in a .exe or .dll 32bit file. Moreover, the main icon may be replaced. A standardised file format (.rnv) lets you exchange your mods with additional information in an already zipped file that contains all resources. You have preview functions for bitmaps and the ability to listen to audio files/resources. If the guys at Propellerhead like your mod they will distribute it from their Web page.
rdh3o102. Rubber Duck H3O+ is a realtime virtual analogue bassline synthesiser running on the PC. The intended use of a bassline machine was to simulate a human guitar bass player, but nowadays it is more used to generated those hypnotic sounds in electronic dance music, like Acid & House. The program is roughly based on Roland's well known TB-303. The program's intention is not to copy the 303 exactly, but to be able to generate sounds which are based on the synthesis model of a oscillator wave with a resonant filter sweep applied to it combined with a simple hardware sequencer design.
smorph30. SMoRPhi is a software synthesiser. It was designed to create samples for use in other programs, exactly as you can do it with a real synthesiser. It has many adjustable parameters for each of the 32 voices, there are freely editable wave presets and volume envelopes, wave-, vibrato- and low pass morphing, an effect section with low pass, EQ, distortion and more. This version also supports MIDI and has an improved wave preset editor. SMoRPhi is Shareware, but the only restriction is that you cannot save samples longer than one second.
synthia. Synthia v3.30, a "patch chord" synth with a set of eight oscillators at one end, a mixer at the other and processes such as accumulators and multipliers in between. You create a route for the sound with virtual patch chords and write the result to a Wave file.
trx-or11. Orangator 1.1 for Win95 is a powerful virtual analogue synthesiser which uses subtractive synthesis! It makes acid, trance, jungle basses, Jarre-like sounds, drums and so on. New features include reverb and Saw waves. With Orangator you can make all types of techno 303-like sounds, synth-strings, sweeps, 808-like drums and even some acoustic-like bells and organs. Effects include resonance, phaser and delay. Lots of examples are included.
vr_demo. AudioSim v 1.91, a virtual analogue synthesiser. It runs in DOS but is designed to run under Windows 95. The main screen is a representation of a hardware analogue sequencer. It features two oscillators, four envelope generators, two low-frequency oscillators and a self oscillating multimode filter. You can access the parameters of the different modules REAL-TIME via the graphical interface using the mouse.
vssdk11. The Virtual Sampler Library (VSL.DLL) provides applications running under MS Windows 95 and NT with a MIDI-controlled, low-latency, fully programmable wavetable module implemented entirely in software. Using the Virtual Sampler Library, you can play both sound effects and music by issuing simple MIDI messages. When dealing with sound effects, you are relieved of the need to negotiate the intricacies of DirectSound programming or (worse) of hardware-specific APIs, but retain the ability to synchronize screen and audio events precisely. When dealing with music, you can use standard MIDI tools to create your songs, and yet know exactly what the user will hear, independently of his or her synthesiser hardware.
vwaves2e.exe. Virtual Waves v2.1 demo. This is a program for sound synthesis, processing and analysis. With it you can create virtual sound generating machines, called synthesisers, by connecting the program's various modules together in an intuitive and ergonomic fashion. The modules form a vast collection of basic synthesisers, effects, modulators, filters, etc. The program has a highly graphic interface. To create a synthesiser, you place the necessary modules in the workspace and connect them together. Once the modules' parameters have been adequately adjusted, the resulting sound may be calculated using the control panel. The sound can then be saved in a .WAV format file and later used in any musical or multimedia application, or sent to an external sampler or card and played as a musical instrument. The program includes a number of unique types of synthesis (Waveform Sequencer, Spectral Sketch Pad, etc...) and has wizards which help you construct a range of sounds. There are hundreds of synth patches to try.
